Short and Simple Self Care: Clean Out Your Purse

  • Take everything out of your purse.
  • Take a moment to wipe down the inside, outside, and shoulder strap.
  • Toss any trash.
  • File receipts in your budget binder or enter them into your budget app. Toss receipts that do not need to be saved.
  • Wipe down your wallet.
  • Put loose change in your wallet. If you have a lot of change, consider putting most of it in a piggy bank or a coin jar in your car.
  • Get rid of old cards and items in your wallet.
  • Pare down your keychain. Do you need all of the store tags?

Helpful Items to Have in Your Purse

Once you have emptied out your purse and gotten rid of items, it is time to put things back in your purse.

Make sure everything has a purpose and a place. Keep items you use less often in zippered areas and high use items in easy access areas.

  • Organize your wallet. Put bills in the same direction and organize by denomination. Put cards in order so you can easily access to make purchases or when at doctor appointments.
  • Put keys in an easy to access space. If this space stays consistent, they will be easier to find when you need them.
  • Safely store any medications, epi-pens, or eye drops. I wear contacts and keep a back up pair in my purse. I also have an extra storage container with saline solution in case I need to remove my lenses or wash them.
  • As you add things back to your purse, make sure you need them, they serve a purpose, and have a place.

Some fun self-care items I like to keep in my purse are lip gloss, a snack bar, and a pen/paper. I also enjoy having this tin of stress relief lozenges and relaxing hand sanitizer spray.
