The kitchen is often a place where you are caring for others. You may be cooking or cleaning or both! Adding some simple kitchen items can take self-care to the next level.

While you may be eating the meals you are cooking for your family, you may easily start to feel like the frazzled mom in the movie A Christmas Story movie. Don’t become a mom/dad/caregiver who hasn’t had a hot meal in the last 15 years!!

Why Focus on Self-Care in the Kitchen?

In addition to not eating a hot meal, there are other ways your self-care can slip in the kitchen. For example, you may get in the habit of eating your child’s leftovers. You can also be overwhelmed with dirty dishes and overflowing trash. Picky eating, lack of help, texture sensitivities, and costly foods for specialty diets also adds to kitchen stress.

Stress from the kitchen can spill into other rooms and areas of your life.

But, there are ways you can reduce stress and even increase self-care while spending time in the kitchen.

In the military, they call cooking activities “KP duty” or kitchen patrol. In your home, let’s take some steps to turn this into a more positive experience.

The kitchen is called the heart of the home after all.

The kitchen is already a place associated with delicious smells. Here are some additional ways to boost your senses in the kitchen.

Wall Plug-ins

These are both beautiful looking and smelling. You can also choose a plug to match your decor. There are many wonderful smells to choose from.

Healthy Snacks

Have a few go-to healthy items you can easily grab. The easier the better. This can also help with avoiding junk foods.

Favorite Drinks

I enjoy both coffee and tea. Hot chocolate is also a nice treat! Try keeping a few favorites on hand in the kitchen to enjoy on their own or while taking care of cooking a meal.

Protein Shakes

This protein shake is easy for me to shake up in a water bottle with some almond milk. It tastes chocolaty and also makes me feel full.
